Packing list for the perfect day of skiing in Reiteralm & Fageralm
A successful day in the snow doesn't just start with the first trip up the mountain, but already when you're packing at home. We've all been there: you're standing at the summit, the wind is picking up, and your thick fleece jacket is still at home. Or the kids are hungry, but the healthy snacks are waiting in the car. To make sure your day of skiing in Schladming-Dachstein is completely stress-free, we've put together the ultimate guide and a detailed packing list for your day on the slopes.
Important: Before you go through the checklist, it's best to check our webcams to assess the current conditions on the mountain. Nevertheless, you shouldn't rely solely on the webcams, as the weather on the mountain can change quickly. It's better to pack an extra layer!
Two mountains, different experiences: Perfect preparation
Reiteralm: Focus on performance and speed
Reiteralm is known as the training center for the World Cup elite. If you venture onto the crisp slopes, complete ski equipment is essential. Here, it's all about edge grip, aerodynamics, and safety at high speeds. Athletic skiers should also rely on high-quality functional underwear that quickly wicks away sweat during intense descents so that the body does not cool down during lift phases.
The Fageralm: relaxation and adventure for the little ones
Everything is a little more relaxed at the Fageralm, because here the focus is on experiencing nature and skiing fun for children. For parents, the checklist for skiing here means above all: preparation. Enough tissues, a high sun protection factor for children's sensitive skin, and perhaps a few motivating gummy bears for the first ride on the platter lift should not be missing from your backpack.

What should you pack in your ski backpack?
- Safety first: A modern ski helmet and protectors are standard at Reiteralm. Don't forget to have your bindings checked by a professional before the start of the season! Right at the Silver Jet valley station in Gleiming, you will find the ski specialists from INTERSPORT Gerhardter, where you can have your skis checked before your day on the slopes.
- The onion principle: The weather in the Alps can change quickly. Several thin layers are more effective than one thick jacket. Pack enough layers to withstand the cold wind on the descent, but still be able to enjoy the sun at the ski hut.
- Sun protection & care: UV radiation at over 1,500 meters is enormous. High-quality sunscreen and lip balm belong in every jacket pocket to prevent sun damage to the face and protect the skin.
- Food: While the Reiteralm attracts visitors with culinary highlights in the ski huts, at the Fageralm, snacks such as gummy bears or glucose tablets for the children are often a lifesaver between meals. A water bottle should also be included in your backpack when skiing with children.
